Automatically Shorten All Links in Your SMS Messages
With our built-in SMS URL shortener, every long link inside your SMS messages can be automatically converted into a clean, short, and professional Urlz.li link. This helps you:
- Save characters in your SMS and avoid messages being split.
- Improve readability with short, clean links.
- Look more professional in every customer communication.
Example:
Before:
“Hello, please visit our detailed presentation page here:
https://smsmobileapi.com/how-to-shopify/#introduction-how-to-use-now”
After (automatic shortening):
“Hello, please visit our detailed presentation page here:
https://urlz.li/6eabf10b”
Free Built-In Short URL Feature
By default, the URL shortening feature is free and available directly in your dashboard. You can enable or disable automatic shortening with a simple dropdown setting:
- 1 (or “Yes”) – all URLs in the message will be automatically converted into short URLs.
- 0 or empty (or “No”) – the URLs will not be converted into short URLs.
When activated, the system scans every outgoing SMS, detects all long links, and replaces them with short Urlz.li URLs before sending the message.
Use Your Own Urlz.li Account and API Key
You can use the default shortening system without creating any account on Urlz.li. However, if you want full control and tracking, you can connect your own Urlz.li API key.
Once your Urlz.li account and API key are connected:
- All shortened links are automatically associated with your Urlz.li account.
- You can find every SMS link directly in your Urlz.li dashboard.
- Enable advanced click tracking:
- see if a link was clicked or not,
- see when the click happened,
- see additional tracking details provided by Urlz.li,
- and other useful analytics.
This connection turns each SMS into a measurable marketing asset, allowing you to understand which links are visited and how your recipients interact with your messages.
Activate the Short URL Feature from the Dashboard
In your dashboard, you will find a dropdown setting to control the URL shortening behavior. For example:
Setting: “Convert all long links into short links (if any are present in the SMS)” – simply set this option to Yes to enable automatic Urlz.li shortening, or No to keep the original URLs.
Enable URL Shortening via API (shorturl=1)
The URL shortening function is also available directly from the API. To activate it, simply use
the parameter shorturl=1 in your API request.
GET /your-sms-endpoint?apikey=YOUR_API_KEY
&to=+32499123456
&message=Hello+check+this+link:+https://smsmobileapi.com/how-to-shopify/#introduction-how-to-use-now-v12
&shorturl=1
When shorturl=1 is provided, the system detects all long URLs contained in the
message parameter, calls the Urlz.li service for each one, and replaces them with short URLs
before the SMS is sent.
